What song should I sing for West Side Story auditions?
- must be 16 bars
- must not be from West Side Story
- must be for a mezzo-soprano (or soprano but not TOO high. I dont want to be Maria.)
- must be perfect for the part of Rosalia (the girl who sings ‘America’ with Anita’ in the beginning. She says all the great things about Puerto Rico. I really want that part!)
- because of the note above, please make the song be somewhat revelent to the part I want, and West Side Story
- Don’t just give me a website. give me actual suggestions please.
You can try something from Les Miserables, like Eponine’s On My Own, but if you want something faster, which is understandable for the role, try something from Into the Woods with the Baker’s Wife. She sings this small section called Maybe They’re Magic. It’s really cute and upbeat.
If you don’t like either one of these suggestions, please just remember to pick a song from a broadway musical and not anything otherwise. It is much more professional to pick a broadway song and directors really appreciate it. I hope I helped you out, and good luck at your audition
