Why is RFK stadium in Washington, DC regarded as the best stadium in the world for soccer?
A Mexican guy who lives near Washington DC told me so. He seems to know a lot about soccer.
Whoa, best in the world? I don’t know about that one.
I’m from the Washington, D.C. area, I love D.C. United, but I would argue that it’s not even the best in the MLS – that being the Home Depot Center where Galaxy and Chivas USA play. Maybe even Toronto FC’s home field, too.
The stands along the field do have flexibility and when the crowd whips into a frenzy we get the place rockin’. I’m afraid, though, that most of the time there are only 15-20k people in a 66k seat stadium (with the exception of when Becks was here) , so it’s looks pretty dreary. Also, when the Washington Nationals played here, the pitch was a mess – especially where the infield for baseball was. Now the Nats have moved away so the field is all ours once again.
I’m flattered that someone thinks our venue is the best in the world, and it does have potential, but I’m afraid I quite disagree with your Mexican guy.
