Why cant civilian ships arm themselves to protect from pirates?
I don’t get it. Why cant these supertankers and ships have a no float zone in dangerous waters and blow any small boat away that breaches a safety zone?
Did these pirates get on board while no one was looking? so shouldn’t they have infra red cameras on all sides of the boat and have 24/7 monitoring.
Also the range of the RPGs that they pirates have is limited so if these ships just had better fire power they could sink them before they get close I suppose.
Well, that may happen.
However, many shipowners and crews are reluctant to do that, because just like in the 17th Century, if a ship resists usually they kill the entire crew.
I suspect, that convoys will be formed, and escorted by the Multinational Naval and air forces in the HOA right now.
Another tactic will be “direct action” . Attacking and destroying the pirate bases on the Somali coast.
