U.S. Naval Academy Navy Cadets Versus Marine Cadets?
I know that Midshipmen wear different insignia on their uniforms depending on what branch they are entering, but, when exactly would a Midshipman chose which branch, Navy or Marines, he is going into upon graduation, and how are the different cadets handled?
Is it like declaring a major at a regular university? Are the cadets segregated in their dorms and such based on which branch they are entering? Do they have intramural competitions with each other, like Navy cadets versus Marine cadets games? Are there certain clubs and honour programs that they can join based on this?
U choose you option during the beginning of your senior year, u dont start your Major coursework at the end of your sophomore, beginning of junior year. There are intramural competitions but it is not based on Navy/Marine option. And just because u choose a specific field of work, does not mean u automatically get in, only if they have enough room for you in that specific area, say Navy Aviator, or Marine artillery officer. There is one major dorm complex: Bancroft Hall. the “Brigade” is composed of many companies, the dorm areas are usually set up so that the people in your company are usually close to each other.
