Turns out the price of admission paid by concert and theater goers in California and around the country included a bit extra for scammers. The con artists then sold the premium tickets to brokers above cost and they in turn sold the tickets to the general public at a substantial markup. Thousands of people who purchased tickets for popular performances and sporting events were duped into paying much higher prices.
The news report got me thinking about top events recently held at AT&T Park San Francisco, the San Francisco Civic Center, Orpheum Theater, San Jose Center for the Performing Arts and Candlestick Park. Often times, popular performances, including the upcoming Taylor Swift “Fearless” concert at the HP Pavilion, sell out within 2 minutes and immediately scalpers are on the scene selling tickets at huge markups. And usually the overpriced tickets get sold. So that gets me wondering, how much is a night on the town worth?
